Internship Reflection

First of all, I feel so glad accomplishing my internship because that means I don’t have to worry about it anymore. I was so proud of myself because I first thought that I wouldn’t be able to do my internship well and that doing the hours are too much for me, but later on it really was not. Doing my work at internship was not hard at all for me but of course I still have to work with proficiency. I feel like I was a persistent and hard-working person, working with little kids was not really hard but it takes a lot of patience. I also had shown friendliness to them so that I could be comfortable working with them.

The daily duties that I usually do are mostly filing papers in the cabinet, putting papers in the folder and also helping the students with their classworks or sometimes even with their homeworks. I actually got used to with my work at internship that I already know what to do first every time I come in class. Sometimes they even talk to me and share out what they did in the beginning of class. As a teacher assistant I am both working with students as well as the teacher, and my job in total is to help the teacher make things much simpler for her.

Throughout the couple of weeks in doing my internship I have learned different things. I learned that I can still improve my skills as a teacher assistant, this also helped my personality because I’ve shown a more understanding and even-tempered attitude towards people. I also learned that being a kindergarten teacher is not easy, they have to be capable of being a good teacher and to show a good example to their students. Parents entrusted their child to their teachers because they know students will be safe and guided inside school, that’s why teachers needed to be a great model because students look up to them. It also takes a lot more patience for them to do their job properly.

I believe that there wasn’t any obstacles I had encountered in my internship. However, there are times that were slightly challenging for me, for example students doesn’t listen or they didn’t want to finish their work so I have to force them that they have to get it done. Other than that I could say my work there was pretty easy, and it got easier for me when I got comfortable working with the teacher and especially the students. I somewhat found it really fun to work with them even though there are times that I’m tired, I still enjoy being with the class.

I already knew what to expect in my internship because I have tried being a volunteer in the same school for community service. Although I expected more work this time because I do it during school hours and it’s like the period when the class gets busy. I already expect that I’m gonna be working with the kids most of the time but I received extra work on some days and it wasn’t bad as I thought it would be. The whole experience that I had in my internship was really great, the teacher I’ve worked with was really nice plus the students were really adorable, more than that they welcomed me in their class since the first week I started. I’m glad that I had an opportunity to work with such wonderful people like them.

Week 1

The first week of my internship at Ruby Bridges Elementary School was pretty good. I didn’t actually had a hard time being a teacher assistant since I volunteered in the same school last year on their after school program. I was a teacher assistant as well but I did that before to earn some community service hours only. That’s why I thought that it would be a good idea for me to work on my internship there is because I already experienced with helping kindergarten children. I know it may sound kind of difficult for others but all you need is a lot of patience to work with them. Although this time was a little bit different because I’m doing it during school hours therefore I could observe and learn more on what the students are doing daily in class.

Week 2

Second week of internship, still doing good. Most of the children in the class already know me. Whenever they see me and come inside the room they ran to me and give me a hug. They are so cute and nice, they always listen to whatever their teacher said and they are also pretty respectful to her. Most of the time they’re calling me when they need help or when they are confused with the classwork they were doing at that moment. Sometimes I also get some other works from the teacher and I help her with that too. Like for example, when the teacher is discussing in front of class I file some papers in the cabinet or maybe staple and sort of papers in the folder. At this point, I’m starting to get used with my job.

Week 3

I’m feeling so confident about my internship. I feel like I’m comfortable working with the students as well as the teacher. Sometimes it makes me reminisce with my kindergarten days back when I was still a child. I’m happy to be working with the people in that class. They students are always fun to work with and most of them are really smart, that’s why it wasn’t hard for me to look after them.

Week 4

Before the school get to thanksgiving break. The students in my class did some awesome stuff which they really enjoyed about. They were all so excited with the activity. My job on that day was just to help them on whatever they need. No filing of papers or stacking folders, just a great and fun time with the kids. Some of their activity was doing arts and crafts, and this kids are have some artistic skills. They used their imaginations to create a beautiful art work. Everyone had a great time and at the same time excited for their thanksgiving break.

Week 5

After coming back from break it feels like the first day of school again for the kids. Some of them were probably still on thanksgiving mode. I couldn’t blame them, it’s like one week of rest is not enough. However, they still managed to get back to their work, and do what they have to do. It goes the same thing for me and that is to assist them with classworks.

Week 6

This week was just normal week for everyone. The children all worked on the things that we usually do in class. As for my job, I was also working on the stuff that I normally do. I could say that this week was an easy week at my internship. I enjoy working with my friend Ameena who also work there as a teacher assistant although she’s on a different class. She was with K1 and I was with K2 students. When both of our class collaborates, we worked together in helping the kids.

Week 7

I can’t believe that this is the last week of my internship before the year ends. In about two weeks another year is gonna start and for me days were really fast, it feels like yesterday is January then now another year of January is coming. The students were very much excited for their two-weeks break, I’m sure that everyone will have a great holiday season. For their last day of school they have a little festive where they go on different class and have the chance to do an activity and play some games, everyone was really happy. Happy Holidays!

Week 8

I am nearly done with my internship, and I’m already feeling mixed emotions. I feel happy because I’m gonna be able to accomplish my internship as my requirement for graduation, however I would also feel sad because I will be leaving the class that I have been with a couple of months. I feel like the whole class and I have built a friendship with each other like what I always said everyone is really nice, especially the kids.
